Dr. Rogers is a native of Southern California. He graduated with honors from Harvard University in 1985, and then attended dental school at UCLA. Dr. Rogers completed a General Practice Residency at the Sepulveda Veteran's Hospital in 1991. His residency training included plastic surgery, oral surgery, and emergency medicine. Dr. Rogers has been in private practice in Northern Virginia since then.
His interest in dentistry developed at an early age. Due to childhood illnesses, his permanent teeth never developed the hard enamel covering. As a result, he had many of his primary teeth extracted to allow the weak and discolored permanent teeth to erupt. By the age of 12, he had a cavity on nearly every tooth, and was often teased by other kids about the brown color of his teeth.
Many years later, after many extractions and extensive orthodontics, Dr. Rogers finally had veneers placed on his front teeth. For the first time in his life, he could smile without the fear of strange looks from others. He knows first hand the psychological and physical benefits of having cosmetic dental work, and has great empathy for patients in similar circumstances. In addition, Dr. Rogers has since experienced toothaches requiring root canal treatment and numerous crowns on his back teeth, helping him to be sensitive to how patients feel about their treatment.
Since graduating from UCLA, Dr. Rogers has received over two thousand hours of continuing education, constantly striving to improve his skills and knowledge. He has attended numerous courses at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, and also speaks at local informational seminars about the benefits of regular dental care as well as cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, and TMJ disorders.
Dr. Rogers is certified by the International Association of Orthodontics. He concentrates on preventing jaw problems by screening children at an early age. He believes certain conditions are more easily treated early with removable functional appliances, reducing the need for braces later on. Dr. Rogers is an active member of both the International Association of Orthodontics and the American Academy of Functional Orthodontics.
Dr. Rogers is also a graduate of the Institute for Advanced TMJ Studies and is an active member of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain. Dr. Rogers is also a TMJ patient and is currently undergoing treatment for tempromandibular joint dysfunction (TMD).
Dr. Dennis Holly graduated from dental school at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon in May 2006. He previously earned a degree in General Science with a minor in Chemistry from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. During his undergraduate training, Dr. Holly did research on local streams with the Department of Fish and Wildlife to identify habitat changes in trout and salmon species. He was also a commercial salmon fisherman in Alaska and before acceptance into dental school; he was a sawyer for a wild land firefighting crew with the U.S. Forest Service.
Dr. Holly was born and raised in Knappa, Oregon, a small community with a population of 1,500, in the northwest corner of the state. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest led to his love of the outdoors, and it has become his favorite hobby. When Dr. Holly was in the fourth grade, his teacher asked the class to write a paper about what they each wanted to do when they grew up ---- can you believe he wrote about wanting to become a dentist? He knew what he wanted to do; he just didn’t know how he would get there. Dr. Holly credits his family, especially his mother and father, for guiding him and supporting him along his journey.
In August of 2006, Dr. Holly set off with a loaded car from Oregon and traveled for two weeks across the country. He traveled 5,000 miles to Virginia, stopping along the way to fish, hike, and explore. After arriving and settling in, Dr. Holly joined Dr. Rogers and Fairlington Dental. He has been working very hard to fill the (large) shoes of Dr. Brown. He is already continuing his education by attending advanced courses in orthodontics and endodontics. He lives in Fairfax with his new Boerboel puppy, Tyson.
